MESSAGE FROM THE SPONSOR

Andrew Donaldson Partner of BiG Storage, together with the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets Professional Team along with the Students Union, are determined to turn the University of Chester Men’s and Women’s basketball teams in to best in the United Kingdom.

So far a coaching infrastructure has been implemented with the support of qualified coaches from the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets and currently the Men’s team is 5 and 1 in the league and in the last 16 of the Cup. Our ambitions are for the Men’s team to continue their cup run and gain promotion to Division 2A this season and for the Women’s team to consolidate their position in Division 2A

"By investing in, and developing, both the men's and women's teams and by supporting the foundation degree, I hope we can all excel in the sport of basketball." - Andrew Donaldson

BiG Storage have already provided 2 scholarships to worthy students since the course was launched this Autumn. Max Casenove, who is an under 18’s French International, is now playing for the Men’s team and Stuart McNeill, who is currently a coach for one of the Big Storage Junior Jets teams, will be taking part in this pioneering opportunity to develop his coaching skills alongside professional coaches and players, and will help out with spreading basketball through schools across Cheshire.

Work based learning will form a key part of the degree and will be facilitated by BiG Storage Cheshire Jets as an integral part of their community projects and wider business activity.

Andrew Donaldson who came up with the initial idea in late 2007 for the course commented “I am delighted that Stuart is the first beneficiary of the BiG Storage scholarship as I know his work with the BiG Storage Junior Jets has been invaluable to the club so far and also very pleased to have secured the signing of Max who we hope will eventually progress on to the professional team’s bench’.

Donaldson continues ‘In order to encourage the organic growth of basketball, initiatives such as the degree course, and offering scholarship opportunities can only contribute positively towards producing the calibre of players, coaches and community liaison officers that the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets need.’
