The BiG Storage Xmas toy appeal received a boost this week as Bez and Chris Bisson came along to lend their support.

For the third year running BiG Storage is running a Xmas Toy Appeal in conjunction with the Stockport Express and Times, Wilmslow Express, Macclesfield Express, South Manchester Reporter and Trafford Metro for the many underprivileged and vulnerable children from nominated local charities in the area. The recipient charities will include the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust who provides holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children, Henshaws Society for the Blind, The David Lewis Centre and The Stockport Early Intervention and Family Support Centre. The David Lewis Centre is well known in the area for offering a range of medical, educational, residential and assessment services for children with complex epilepsy and other neurological conditions, including learning disability and challenging behavior.

The 2009 BiG Storage Xmas Toy Appeal has just added another recipient charity to receive the donated gifts, namely The Together Trust, who are based in Cheadle and run a range of services including fostering and adoption, special schools and residential care homes across the North West but particularly centred around Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

Chris Bisson is better known to thousands of soap fans as Emmerdale’s Sweet Facory owner Jai Sharma and as Vik from Cornonation Street before that. Chris joined forces with Bez – the infamous maracas shaking dancer of the Happy Mondays and TV personality, who is no stranger to hardship himself, having been homeless for sometime when he was younger. Bez however persevered and came through his adversity and is now quite the family man with three boys of his own.

Although the appeal has already received some donations, there is still along way to go and lots of deserving children to collect presents for. So we are appealing to you, our readers, to think about donating a gift for a very worthy cause which will help make Xmas extra special for a youngster!! Don’t forget, you don’t have to break the bank to make a needy child feel special. Make it easy on the pocket by using those ‘loyalty vouchers’ and taking advantage of those ‘get one free’ offers of which there seem to be more than ever this year.

The recipients of the appeal will include children of all ages up to 16, so do remember the teenagers who are still children at heart and love to receive presents, especially at Christmas time. We can only give NEW toys to the children and teenagers benefitting from the appeal and they should be presented unwrapped so that the charities can choose toys and gifts most suitable for the recipients.

BiG Storage branch Manager Keith Astley commented ‘ A BiG thank you to those generous people who have already brought some gifts down for the appeal. The team at Handforth and Macclesfield would really like to do all we can to make Christmas a better time for those kids who are facing difficulty and hardship. Money is tight for lots of people this year, so don’t forget if your budget doesn’t allow for an extra gift, then take advantage of those ‘get an extra one free’ offers. That way you can donate without it affecting your pocket!!’
