THINK BiG -FROM TERABYTES TO GIANTS

05/12/2009

BiG Storage on Sealand Road was instrumental in launching a competition to seek public opinion from under 16s as to what they thought a ‘Terabyte’ was and to depict this visually.
emilia-bartlett-flint
A Terabyte is actually a digital unit that represents a huge amount of data – the equivalent of well over a million books worth of information - but when a general discussion prompted all sorts of different interpretations as to what a terabyte was, the idea to hold a competition for children was born.

The Terabyte was topical as BiG Storage has just launched a new storage concept within their portfolio which is that of Data Storage – an ‘off site Data Backup service’ for both individuals and businesses which safeguards against the permanent loss of data from your computer.  Important for everyone in this technological age.

The winner was Emilia Bartlett 13 from Flint who won a laptop computer, tickets to Chester Zoo and Oulton Park passes.  It was a close contest with some fabulous entries and she faced stiff competition by from runner-up Joes Jones 8 from Chester, Martyn Bolan 15 from Vicar’s Cross, David Stephenson  and Ethan Lewis from Chester.

Each of their drawings will now be used by BiG Storage to represent the first five terabytes of data storage space available to data customers together with the winner’s names to identify where a customer’s data is stored.

The competition entries which came in thick and fast corresponded with the launch of the annual ‘Giant Parade’ and the natural link of ‘BiG, huge, gigantic, enormous, colossal’ made it a must to turn the winner’s drawing in to one of the faces of the giant.  So Emilia’s drawing is now a ‘live’ effigy in the form of a 14ft giant who despite the odd public appearance here and there will be making its main debut at the ChestertheGiantCity’s BiG Giant Parade on 20th and 21st June in the streets of the city!!

Andrew Donaldson of BiG Storage comments  ‘We are astounded how this idea has gathered such momentum and is to play such a ‘giant’ role in the community.  As well as showing what a lot of creative talent there is locally, it has been immense fun and will continue to be so in the lead up to the Giant’s Parade’.

Andrew continues ‘It’s also been educative because there are thousands of people out there who now know exactly what a Terabyte is!!!!’

BiG Storage and its employees have become so enthusiastic about the Giant’s Parade that they are now able to lend a hand to any groups, clubs or businesses who want to build their own Giant for the event.  For help please ring BiG Storage on 01244 399993 or visit www.bigstorage.info.

ANOTHER BiG COMMUNITY DEAL AS BiG STORAGE SUPPORTS THE WARRINGTON WOLVES

05/12/2009

Local Storage & Business Centre company BiG Storage on Manchester Road, Woolston continues its policy of ‘investing in the local community’, by becoming a sponsor of the ‘Warrington Wolves’.

The substantial contribution to become a shirt sponsor is in keeping with the company ethos and joins a long list of activity over the past 18 months which has seen BiG Storage extend sponsorship and support to many local groups and charities. These include the forthcoming St. Rocco’s Dragon Boat Race, Local Scout Groups, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, St Joseph’s Family Centre, and the Ronald Macdonald’s hospice appeal. BiG Storage has also been instrumental in delivering the ‘Hoops for Health’ lifestyle messages via the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets professional basketball team into 32 local primary schools in Warrington this academic year.

It is hoped that the new sponsorship will extend far beyond mere financial support as BiG Storage is keen to work side by side with Warrington Wolves in joint community ventures as the relationship develops.

Andrew Donaldson partner of BiG Storage says ‘ We recognize what a fantastic community driven club Warrington Wolves’ operates – one that is so similar to BiG Storage’s own ethos.

Andrew continues ‘Warrington Wolves is a great club with a great brand that displays a great community spirit. We look forward to working together this season to make a BiG difference locally’

Dave Hutchinson of the Wolves says ‘It is great to have BiG Storage on board with the Wolves, not only are they a great business to deal with but their commitment to the Warrington community in general seems boundless. It is essential that local businesses and sport continue to work closely for the benefit of the borough, we are proud to be associated and look forward to working closely with Andrew and his team in the future.’

BiG Storage is committed to investing as much help and support as it can in to the local community and working side by side with other businesses and residents for the benefit of all those who work and live in Warrington.

BiG Storage provides self storage solutions for both domestic and business use as well as offering office space, trade counter and workshop units, together with Warehousing.
